Unrealistic Expectations= Unhappiness

"Assumptions are the termites of relationships." -Henry Winkler
I like this quote and completely agree with it. A lot of people run into this type of problem but don't realize that this is what is causing the problem. Assumptions or unrealistic expectations can cause the end of a relationship if you aren't careful. Don't have expectations of someone that they can't live up to because it will only leave YOU disappointed.

An example of this would be, say, a couple gets married and the wife has the expectations that her husband will come home from work and immediately begin helping her around the house with chores. But the husband has the expectation that he will come home from work and relax a while and then his wife will cook dinner. As you can already see this will cause some problems. Just imagine if its something thats a little more important like jobs, or children, or family. Before making a serious commitment with someone make sure that you have realistic expectations of each other. Things will go so much more smoothly if you do.

Do you all agree? What do you think of unrealistic expectations or assumptions?

Remember positive thoughts = positive emotions

  1. I agree with this post, expectations are hard to live up to sometimes.

  2. Expectations almost destroyed my marriage. I have rewired my thinking to hopes and wishes not expectations.

  3. I'm glad to hear that you are working it out, and that is a great way to change your thinking. My father always told me "hope for the best, prepare for the worst." That has always helped me throughout the years to not get too let down if things don't go the way I want them to. Thanks for your comment!
