To "live" means...

"To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all." -Oscar Wilde

We always see quotes that are urging us to "live life to the fullest" and "live in the moment" but what do these quotes really mean? What are they really telling us to do? Ever thought about it?

What I interpret these quotes to mean is that we should live in the NOW, in the present. Now your probably saying, well how am I not living in the present? I shall explain further.. our minds are continuously thinking, of memories, past events, future events, future problems and whatever else that you may find yourself thinking of. Living in the present means to stop thinking of the past and the future, be aware of what is happening RIGHT NOW. Fully involve yourself with the things you do, and the activities that you take on.

Don't let yourself run on auto-pilot, remember the movie Click? That is an example of an extreme way of portraying not fully "living" life. Don't just coast your way through life, take in the scenery and really enjoy it. Life could be so much worse for you than most of us realize. There are people all around the country and world who aren't even able to eat a decent meal. Always remain thankful because nothing lasts forever.

Smile :)

"Smile at each other, smile at your wife, smile at your husband, smile at your children, smile at each other -- it doesn't matter who it is -- that will help you to grow up in greater love for each other." -Mother Teresa

Change takes time, so be patient!

"You cannot change your destination over night, but you can change your direction overnight." -Jim Rohn

I found this quote yesterday via @adrianosucesso on twitter and I liked it because it relates to all of the Health Care craziness that has been going on recently. Don't worry I'm not about to tell you about how you should be for or against it, I just want to point out that like changes in the laws of Health Care, things take time to happen, to change, to develop. Don't rush your way through life's situations.

Have a new love interest? Take your relationship slowly, one day at a time. Allow yourself time to develop more than surface feelings for them before you take it to the next level. Decided to change your career path? Don't have unrealistic expectations about your future and the time it will take you to accomplish your goals, this will only lead to disappointment. Keep your head up and stay true to yourself.

Don't Compromise Yourself

"Don't compromise yourself. You are all you've got." -Janis Joplin

I love this quote because it reminds me to respect and watch out for myself. I think it's important to be reminded to do this every now and then because we often forget. It's easy to get caught up in everything that is going on in my world and I need something that says "hey, chill out, you need to take care of yourself."

Don't forget to take care of YOURSELF! Remember, how are you going to love someone else if you can't even love yourself? And how are you going to love yourself if you can't even respect yourself and what you believe in? THINK ABOUT IT!

Quote of the day!

"If you can love the wrong person that much, stop and think how much more you could love the right one."

I think this is a quote that pretty much anyone can relate to. We have all at some point been in a relationship that we knew was horrible for us but stayed in it because we still loved the person. If you love someone, but in the end don't think that they are right for you or that you deserve more, trust your gut feeling and think of this quote "If you can love the wrong person that much, stop and think how much more you could love the right one." Don't settle for less than what you deserve, it's ok to be selfish sometimes because everyone deserves their own happy ending.

Finally Friday!: Patience is a Virtue

"If you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain."

I felt like this quote was extremely appropriate for me to end on this week. I don't know about any of you but it's been a really long week for me! I saw this quote this morning and thought "wow that's perfect." It reminded me that it is gonna be hard sometimes but all of my hard work will pay off in the future. I can't expect to accomplish my goals without having worked for them!
It's easy for us to get off track sometimes when things get difficult for us to handle but keep your eyes on the prize (School, work, kids) and you will be rewarded in the end. Remember patience is a virtue and will reduce your stress greatly. (FYI: so will playing with a pet).

A twitter fav?

"Just because something good ends doesn't mean something better won't begin."

I tweeted this quote earlier today and got a pretty big response to it, so I took it as a sign to write a little somethin' about it since I'm having a bit of writer's block lately. The reason I like this quote is because its about being positive, if you keep up with my quotes very much you have probably noticed I tend to get quotes that promote positivity. I think that I gravitate towards those types of quotes because its a constant reminder to me to not get down when things get rough or when I think I'll "never get everything done on time!" Its quotes like these that bring me back down to earth, slow me down, and force me to look on the brighter side of things. Why am I going to let myself be unhappy when there are SO many things to be happy about. K, I know I sound like "Positive Patty" but look at it like this.. You see someone you love who is depressed because she did badly on an interview or scored poorly on a test, would you say "I know how you feel, but continue to feel sorry for yourself," or "It'll be ok, you can find another interview and practice even more this time," or "well now you know how that teacher gives tests so you can do even better the next time." What would you want someone to tell you? My point is don't waste time feeling sorry for yourself, its not pleasant for anyone else to be around and things could be so much worse. Be thankful for what you have.

As always, Positive thoughts = positive emotions

"One Secret of Success.."

"If there is any one secret of success, it lies in the ability to get the other person's point of view and see things from his angle as well as your own." -Henry Ford

This quote is SO true. To possess the characteristic empathy, is a blessing. If you are having some sort of conflict with someone one of the best things you can do to solve that conflict is to stop, and listen to each others point of view and put yourself in the other person's shoes. Its so much easier to understand where someone else is coming from if you are able to put yourself on their side of the situation. When you are arguing with someone, isn't the whole reason you're arguing because you want them to understand where YOU are coming from? Treat others the way you want to be treated... which reminds me of another quote.. "It's a funny thing about life: if you refuse to accept anything but the best, you very often get it." ~W. Somerset Maughn
